Don't waste your money on this March 9, 2010 Kalman A. Staiman (NJ, USA) The heating unit failed after 3 months - trips my GFI when it's plugged in. I had the same experience with "warranty" coverage as others mentioned - you need to call their service person, and if they determine that it is not due to a manufacturing defect, you're on the hook for at least $115 for the service call. I installed it myself and do not need to pay someone more than I spent for the unit to replace it for me for "free".

DANGER- ELECTRICITY AND LEAKING WATER DON'T MIX! February 24, 2010 mcas (Motown) I purchased this when I built my home in 2001 from Home Depot. In 2008, it began to leak from the holding tank area. With a call to In Sink Erator, I was assured that the re-design (stainless steel water tank) prevented any leakage. They allowed me to purchase a replacement at a large discount. That one lasted only 2 years before it began leaking. Again a call to In Sink Erator, but this time, no response from them after requesting a supervisor to call me. Three months later, they called mentioning my complaint to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. I believe this is a dangerous product that could potentially kill someone.
Simple to install as a replacement February 8, 2010 Scott G. Maurer (Ellicott City, MD) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a replacement for a unit that started leaking after 5 years, installation was real easy. Shocking that the manufacture will only warrant the unit if one of their registered plumbers perform the replacement. The process involved putting two screws in the wall for a new mount, screwing a compression fitting over a hose, and pressing two plastic hoses onto the new unit (20 minutes max). Can't understand why you need a special plumber to do something so simple. New unit has worked great for a month so far. Unlike other reports it seems quieter than the old unit.
the 3 year upgrade February 1, 2010 J. Jackson (Beaverton, OR United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i purchased this as a replacement after 3 years of good use of the original tank. The tank works well and is easy to install but has a design flaw in the plastic material used for the vent internal to the unit. (As an engineer, I had to tear it apart to understand why it failed.) Over time the vent tube will degrade. Based on other reviews, some folks experience leaking. In my case, the smell of ashes permeated the space under the sink where the tank was installed and I knew it wasn't safe to keep using the tank.
Of course, the tank had a 2 year warranty so I ended up purchasing another unit. If you expect this product to be a consumable with a ~3 year lifetime, you should be happy. If you think that expensive tanks should last as least as long as a good house hot water heater then you will be disappointed.
